Virlanie Foundation and PBR 2011.

Aside from the information that it gives to us readers about where it's best to eat, The Philippine's Best Restaurant 2011 created by Philippine Tatler, is giving back the smile to street children.

The Philippines’ Best Restaurants 2011 is the culmination of many months of incognito reviews of the current 157 restaurants. The current edition was also revamped to include new sections such as the Best lists, which recognises restaurants that excel in various categories. These include the Best for Tourists, Best for Wine Lovers, Best Chinese, Best Vegetarian and Best Steaks, to name a few. The book also contains a feature on the seven best chefs in the country in a section called Chef Talks: Juan Carlos de Terry of Terry’s Bistro; Tonyboy Escalante of Antonio’s; J Gam

boa of Cirkulo; Colin Mackay of Sala, Sala Bistro and People’s Palace; Jessie Sincioco of Chef Jessie Rockwell Club and Chef Jessie Top of the Citi; Tippi Tambunting of Masseto; and Tomo of Taka.

Now on its eighth year of reviewing and writing about the finest places to eat in the country, the Philippines’ Best Restaurants has established itself as the definitive guide for discerning diners and an indispensible reference for gourmands.

The next step is to gather a group of contributors deeply passionate about food and wine and knowledgeable on what makes for an excellent dining experience. They are then assigned restaurants to review based on their area of expertise and personal preference.

Restaurants are evaluated on their cuisine, ambience, service standards and price. The reviewers follow a standard rating procedure that encompasses the different facets of a restaurant – from the range of the menu and the wine list, as well as the competence and etiquette of the wait staff.

The Philippines’ premier high society magazine, The Philippine Tatler, is once again organizing its Charity Week, an annual endeavor held with restaurants for the benefit of an organization whose programs provide concrete solutions to social problems.

This year, Virlanie Foundation is the chosen charity. Thirty-six (36) restaurants carefully handpicked from the Philippines’ Best Restaurants list are to donate a generous portion of their proceeds from September 22-30, 2011 to Virlanie.
Of the 36 restaurants participating in Charity Week, 9 are longtime friends of Virlanie who decided once again to support the Foundation’s cause in giving back the smile to street children. Fine-dining restaurants Aubergine, Azuthai, CAV, Chef Jessie, Cibo, Felix, SALA, SALA Bistro and People’s Palace Thai supported Virlanie in 2010.

Charity Week will directly support Virlanie’s Mobile Unit. The Mobile Unit is Virlanie’s outreach program to the street children and their families living in Divisoria. The Philippine Tatler lauded the Mobile Unit for its innovation in promoting education through a mobile classroom and good nutrition through a feeding program. Virlanie Foundation and Philippine Tatler invites diners to enjoy a meal or two at any of the Charity restaurants on Sept 22-30. The restaurants’ donation in turn shall extend balanced meals to about 130 beneficiaries, 90 children and 40 adults. In 2010, the Mobile Unit provided 8,800 meals to its beneficiaries.

This year’s Charity Week is the perfect occasion for diners to share their love of food with friends and family, while at the same time, providing a basic need to the poorest of the poor.

Other restaurants that are participating in this year’s Charity Week are Banana Leaf, CafĂ© Ilang Ilang of Manila Hotel, Chef Jessie Rockwell Club, Circles of Makati Shangri-la, Cru Steakhouse, Crystal Jade, Escolta of Peninsula Manila, Indigo, Kai, Keizo, Kimpura, Kirin Chinese Dining, L’Incontro, Le Bistro Vert, L’Entrecote, Lili, Lusso, Mabuhay Palace, Mamou, Masseto, Ninyo Fusion Cuisine, Opus Restaurant & Lounge, Palermo, Ristorante Pia Y Damaso, Sugi, Thai Patio, The Tivoli, and Umu.
