Come To Mama, MUJI!

My trip to Japan last April was really awesome. If you can recall, we stayed at the Peninsula and had a blast just shopping and eating and viewing the scenery with our BFF, Joey Lorenzo, who took care of us while we were there.

One of the stores that we went to was MUJI and everything in it, we loved!! Steffie, Joie and I didn't leave the store with emtpy hands.

The good news is, MUJI is opening in Manila. It will be in Bonifacio High Street and I am sure you will all love it too, if you haven't been to one yet.


As a brand born at the height of Japan’s consumerist phase in the 1980’s, MUJI has always defined its products through restraint, simplicity and relevance. Their revolutionary idea of eliminating logos and instead focusing on improving product design and functionality struck a chord with society. Last Na To!

This will be my last post about this Ballet Barbie. I just need to show you what I got in behalf of Jul B. Dizon Jewellery. My mom always supported the classical arts and I am sure she would have bid so much higher than what I did because after, it is for charity, but I didn't want to shock my brother when I tell him the company bought a P30,000 Barbie doll. Men just don't understand such things.

I bid for Frederick Peralta's Bridal Barbie because I think it is something that my mom would love.

But the Winner of a Barbie has to go to this woman. She was loving her bubble gum pink gown with matching blonde hair. Tessa was hilariously flirting with Ken. It was certainly one of the highlights of my evening.

Barbie-do!

Our Barbie dolls ended up with stringy hair, short, bald or ruined with bubble gum. Her hair, I think, is the most attractive part of Barbie. Long, straight and blonde. At one point, I suppose I wanted to have hair exactly like hers. Until of course, being BLONDE meant something other than the color of your hair. I am happy with my long thick hair. Although my fashion designer friends (FDF) wants me to cut it off and get a more stylish look. AG, will not have any of this. He wants my hair the way it is and I am happy that my long hair can sometimes mask my chubby face.

Last night, Barbie had so many different hairstyles that I thought I should write up about it. Some FDF even had their dolls go to a salon for some major hair styling!

Ballet Barbie!

My mom used to bring us to ballet performances all the time. We would be wearing our fru-fru dresses, stockings and ribbon on our hair whenever we went to CCP to watch Lisa Macuja dance. We were also trained not to snore if ever we fell asleep during the show. Hahaha. I am so glad my mom exposed us to the classical arts. At that time, all I wanted was to see how pretty the costumes were, too young to appreciate the difficult moves and the pain on the toes!

During these young years of mine, Barbie also filled up our home. But they were not mine. I never really found it exciting, to play with a doll that could hardly move. Jenny, on the other hand, LOVED them to pieces! I was always worried that if I didn't like them Barbies, that maybe I was a TOMBOY!

I guess the obsession with Barbie dolls is a hint of what kind of person you will be in the future. As Rajo said last night at the Ballet Barbie at the Peninsula, "It was Barbie who inspired me to become a fashion designer. I would steal my sister's Barbie dolls!"

When Ballet Philippines tapped the most talented fashion designers in the country to dress up their own Barbies for a cause, it became a Barbie fashion havoc. Check it out.
